Project Description
Fischer Construction took on the project of relining the wastewater lagoons at the Arapahoe Race Track WasteWater Treatment Plant, per updated CDPHE guidelines for wastewater lagoons. The current sludge basins at the racetrack were emptied and revitalized for efficiency, and the project’s completion resulted in better management of the plant’s operations and maintenance.
The project scope included: subgrade preparations, including removal and disposal of wetland plants surrounding and in the lagoon berms; biosolids removal and offsite disposal; lining of lagoons with a 45mm reinforced polypropylene liner; and site work, encompassing site grading and laying of road base.
Value Engineering
The Arapahoe Park Racetrack desired this project to be done before racing season, establishing a quick award-to-completion timeline. Because “time was of the essence” on this project, Fischer Construction ensured materials were fast-tracked. C ollaborative scheduling became a comprehensive process that aligned and engaged the project’s stakeholders throughout the life cycle of the project. Additionally, activities and resources were coordinated to achieve the project’s goal.
Fischer Construction partnered with BioVelocity LLC to process the sludge on-site with a centrifuge, allowing the biosolids to be removed via dry haul.
